HIV/AIDS

Community Profiles
- South Asian, Russian Jewish, European American, Somali, Bosnian, Albanian, Hmong, Nuer, Ukrainian, Jewish American, Vietnamese Each profile provides general cultural information understanding there is great variability among people in any group. The topics included in each profile include History and Demographic Information, Religion, Language and Communication Styles, Family Structure and Roles, Social Values, Dating and Marriage, Maternal and Child Health, Nutrition, Death and Dying, Health Care Values, Beliefs and Practices, Traditional Healing and Specific Health Problems. In addition, each profile includes suggestions for health care providers, examples of community organizations and additional resources.

Caring Across Cultures is about cultural competency in heatlh care and social service. It is designed to help providers work with people who are from different cultures or backgrounds. An examination of the role of culture in health can increase both the effectiveness of treating culturally diverse patients and help achieve healthier lives for all. - SIX STEPS TOWARD CULTURAL COMPETENCE: How to meet the health care needs of immigrants and refugees.
In 1996, the Minnesota Public Health Association's Immigrant Health Task Force published a report to assist health care professionals, consumers, administrators, scholars, and policy makers become more culturally competent. This report is Six Steps Toward Cultural Competency.
