VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES


The Center for Cross-Cultural Health depends on the support, assistance and  activism of its invaluable volunteers to promote and spread the message of cultural competence.

Volunteer Board Membership

To participate as a board member at the Center one has the option of being an active member in one of following four committees:

  • Education

  • Finance/Development

  • Research/Policy

  • Marketing/Public Relations


Volunteer Committee Membership

Individuals from the community work together with members of the Board on the following committees:

Education Committee:

* Provide guidance with regards to workshops, conferences, and seminars.                                                           

* Identify Topics to be raised at conferences and seminars.

* Secure Speakers for conferences and seminars.

* Assess the Information needs of the community.

* Collect, organize, and disseminate cross-cultural health information through print and electronic media.

Finance/Development Committee:

* Advise on finances of the Center.

* Overlook finances of the Center.

* Provide guidance with regards to raising funds.

* In conjunction with Executive Committee, do a five year development plan.

* Identify possible donors and funding agencies.

* In conjunction with Marketing/Public relations Committee, plan events and opportunities to raise visibility of the Center.

Research/Policy Committee:

* Identify research areas and topics for the Center.

* Identify agencies/organizations to do collaborative research with.

* Set up policy strategies for the Center.

* Integrate the needs of the constituents into Center's vision.

Marketing/Public Relations Committee:

* Identify new marketing strategies and services that the Center may offer.

* Advice the Center on PR strategies and policies.

* Seek PR and marketing sources for the Center.

* Develop marketing and PR packet of information.

* In conjunction with Finance/Development Committee, plan events and opportunities to raise visibility of the Center.


Developing Community Profiles

The Center has created profiles of some of the larger cultural groups in Minnesota. The Center encourages its prospective volunteers to be involved in the research and development of one or more of the following profiles.  Writers will be offered payment for the completion of a profile.

Within the next year we would like to have the following profiles started and/or completed:

* American Indian (research has been started, but needs more work)

* Mexican/Mexican American (Chicanos)

*Carribbean/Central American (Latinos)

* Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Transgender

*Disability/Aging

* African American

*Cambodian

*Laotian

Topics for Future Profiles Include:

* Asian Indian

* Eritrean

* Tibetan

* Ethiopian

* Liberian


Research and Information Gathering

The Center offers a wealth of opportunities in the areas of Research and Information gathering for its volunteers:

* Conduct web research and information gathering for cross-cultural health related links.

* Gather information on current cross-cultural date.

* Conduct research on publications and review literature related to cultural diversity and culture in the field of Health Care.


Event Planning and Assistance

This is a short-term volunteer opportunity to assist with special events such as conferences or workshops.
